After demitting the Ministerial office, Dr. Hande avidly took to the literary field. Working overtime everyday for eight years, Dr. Hande completed the Marathon task of rendering the whole of Kamba Ramayanam into running English prose. The book was published by the prestigious Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan and released by Dr. Sanker Dayal Sharma in 1997, who was then the President of India. It is significance to note that no one has so far rendered this great task of translating Kamba Ramayanam into English prose. Former Chief Justice of Madra High Court Hon M.M. Ismail the then President of International Kamban Kazhagam, in his Foreword to the book lavishly complimented Dr. Hande for his outstanding work. As a result, Dr. Hande was invited to U.S.A to give lectures on Kamba Ramayanam. In 1998, Dr. Hande’s biography of Rajaji in Tamil, was released by Bharat Ratna C. Subramanian. In 2002, Dr. Hande’s sensational book on ‘Distortions done to Our Constitution during Emergency’ was released by the then Prime Minister and Statesman Shri. Atal Behari Vajpayee who extolled Dr. Hande for his incisive work, bringing forth several facts which had not been brought out earlier by anyone.
Former Supreme Court Judge, Justice S. Mohan says in his ‘An Appreciation’ “The most remarkable thing about this book is that a man of medicine studying law has been able to bring forth as to how perilously the Fundamental Rights stood during Emergency. Dr. H.V. Hande has delved deep into the study of law. He has also made references to the Parliamentary debates. I must warmly congratulate him for the abiding interest he has taken in this field, producing a masterpiece”.
In 2009, Dr. Hande brought forth an outstanding work “AMBEDKAR & THE MAKING OF THE INDIAN CONSTITUTION” published by the prestigious Macmillian & Co with a scintillating Foreword by Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, who concludes in his Foreword “After reading the book of Dr. H.V. Hande, I felt that this book containing valuable research and educational experience should become an important guide for the legal and political community. Since it is an analysis of the thought process behind the Constitution-makers, particularly Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. I would suggest, apart from all the legal professionals and student community, it should be read by framers and designers of new policies, systems and procedures for new institutions and establishments”. Kannada version of the book was released 3years later in Bangalore by Shri B.S. Yeddiyurappa with the C.M. Shri. Sadananda Gowda presiding. For the Hindi version, Hon Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi gave an excellent ‘SANDESH‘ in April 2013 when he was the C.M. Gujarat. This Sandesh was translated and put into the Tamil version for Dr. Hande’s book on Babasaheb Ambedkar & was released before a packed audience on 28.11.2015.
